Callum Byers, 22, of Ayr, Scotland, was walking around the snaking queue at South Station at 5:40 p.m. ahead of the Haiti vs. Scotland match.
Byers, a paralegal, said he and his friends from university arrived in New York last night and took a bus to Boston this morning.
“We’ve been on line for about 35 minutes. We saw how long the line was and we panicked, we looked at Uber, and kind of debated it, but we thought we’d stick it out. It’s not been too bad,” Byers said.
He said it is his first time in the U.S.
“Never been to America before. First time. Enjoying it so far, it’s really good. It’s warm, warmer than it is back home,” he said.
He and his friends will also be watching the Morocco match on June 19.
“Scotland hasn’t been to a World Cup our lifetime, so, not been to one before, so that’s why it could be a once in a life, hopefully won’t be a once in a lifetime, but it could be,” he said.
“It wasn’t like awful, you know, I got mine off the FIFA resale sites, but still too expensive, but like, relatively speaking, they weren’t too bad, and then we got the Morocco ones at face value, but again, face value is still a rip-off for this World Cup. My ticket for this game was 375 pounds and Morocco one was 600, and 1000 pounds was my limit.”

Gates at Gillette are opening in about 15 minutes and we’re 3 hours from kick-off, and Route 1 is dark, dark red on the traffic maps but that is too be expected.
There is a decent amount of yellow as I-95 splits off from I-93. Traffic out of Boston (and into Boston for that matter) has high volume through the Braintree split.

Are you thinking past today? Here is the World Cup schedule for Gillette Stadium matches through the end of the tournament. The next four games are either Tuesdays or Thursdays so rush hour and commuter traffic will be an issue.
1:53 pm ET June 13, 2026
A World Cup soccer match lasts 90 minutes, plus stoppage time. There will be an automatic 3 minutes of stoppage time added to the 2026 games because of the mandated hydration breaks halfway through each half.
Games in the knockout stages can run longer due to extra time.
This means traffic will increase around Gillette Stadium just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night as fans leave the stadium.
That said, restaurants and bars in Patriot Place will still be open, so fans may stick around for a bite to eat and a drink.
All Boston Stadium Train tickets include a return trip after the match. Trains will start leaving Foxboro Station 30 minutes after the final whistle. Return trains will leave the stadium roughly every 15 minutes until all trains have departed (there are expected to be 5 trains for the Scotland-Haiti game).
12:45 pm ET June 13, 2026

The contraflow lane will be deployed and travel in the breakdown lane will be permitted in designated areas on Route 1 to reduce congestion between the interchange of Route 1 and I-95 and I-495.
In addition, construction and non-emergency maintenance work will not take place in the vicinity of Foxborough on Saturday, June 13.
In Boston, Summer Street will be closed between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. between Atlantic Avenue and Dorchester Avenue. The I-93 southbound ramp to South Station (exit 16A) will be closed during the closure of Summer Street.
Access to I-90 westbound and Albany Street from exit 16A will be maintained. For access to South Station from I-93 southbound, drivers are encouraged to use exit 16B: Purchase Street.

Boston Common is 35 miles from Gillette Stadium, which translates to a45-minute drive as at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to Google Maps.
The drive just before noon for those coming from the southeast is 20 miles in 30 minutes from Taunton;and 28 minutes for 25 miles from Providence, RI.
We know, it will likely take significantly longer as game time gets closer so plan ahead! Ahead of the friendly match traffic backed up so much people were walking down the railroad tracks. (Not a good plan!)
Because of the traffic the World Cup games will cause, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is encouraging fans attending the matches to take public transit to and from Gillette Stadium.
In addition to the traffic, MassDOT says parking for the World Cup games is by pre-paid reservation only and is very limited.
