GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Jury selection begins Monday for the murder trial of Herbert Swilley. He is accused of killing his husband, Timothy Smith, then trying to cover up the evidence by creating a fake crime scene.

The city of Ocala holds its election on Tuesday. On the ballot, Mayor Ben Marciano is being challenged by Arbor Feliciano. Mark Clark, Tamboura Jenkins, and incumbent Jay Musleh are running for council seat three.

Athletic Director Scott Stricklin offers an update on Gator sports during the UF Board of Trustees meeting in Ponte Vedra that starts on Thursday. This will be the first meeting after Dr. Donald Landry was approved as interim president by the board of governors.

Also on Thursday, the Gainesville city commission is scheduled to vote on a $1.7 million contract with Scherer Construction to renovate city hall plaza. The money will come from capital improvement revenue and Wild Spaces Public Places accounts.
