MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After reuniting with family in Memphis for the holidays, a United States servicewoman headed back to her assignment in Guam.

The trip home was provided by a nonprofit organization that makes sure those in the military be with family for special moments and occasions.

At Memphis International Airport, Yoshira Conway said “see ya later” until next time to her family after getting a chance to see them for the first time since she got deployed to Guam.

Conway is a United States airman who said it’s been more than a year since she’s seen her family in Memphis.

Miles for Military is a new military charity that made it possible for Conway to come home for the holidays.

Miles for Military allows servicemembers to exchange volunteer hours at a charity of their choice for flights they often would not be able to afford.

Conway spent her volunteer days at the Air National Guard Chapel.

“They would go out and feed the homeless on every other Wednesday and go out and help if they had an event at the church. I just loved helping out and being there,” Conway said.

According to Miles For Military, Conway is one of more than 500 service members who flew home to be with family while making a lasting impact in their own communities by volunteering and giving back.

Conway said the opportunity to give back to her community in Memphis made it all worthwhile to see her family.

“I got to see my granddaddy; I love my granddaddy,” Conway said.
