Mississippi woman dies after snorkeling in Florida

A Madison, Mississippi, woman became unresponsive while snorkeling in the Florida Keys and was later pronounced dead at a Florida hospital.The Monroe County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Lecia Elizabeth Spriggs, 63, was snorkeling near Mule Key off Key West with a commercial company at about 1:30 p.m. on May 26, when she was found unresponsive in the water. CPR began immediately. The U.S. Coast Guard brought her ashore. Spriggs was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, where she was pronounced dead. Foul play does not appear to be a factor in the incident. Autopsy results are pending.
