LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Several Nebraska law enforcement agencies are warning people about a fake traffic enforcement scam.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the text message is sent to a victim and says that the recipient has not paid an outstanding traffic violation and that the matter is now under court enforcement. The scam encourages immediate action, noting a number of penalties for failing to respond. A QR code is also included in the text message.

The sheriff’s office reminds people to not scan the QR code, make any payments or provide any personal information to the scammers. LSO recommends that you delete the scam text if you get it.

People can check with their government agencies if they question the validity of a text message, email or other correspondence.
