A former Denver Broncos fourth-round draft pick is back in the NFL, just in time for training camp.
The Cleveland Browns signed cornerback Damarri Mathis on Tuesday, the team announced. To make room for Mathis on their roster, the Browns waived cornerback Dom Jones with a failed physical designation.
Mathis (5-11, 195 pounds) joined the Broncos as a fourth-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 2022. He started 17 games through his first two seasons in Denver but fell down the depth chart in 2024. After being cut by the Broncos last summer, Mathis was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers, reuniting him with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.
Unfortunately, Mathis tore his ACL in his first practice with the Panthers, ruling him out for the 2025 season. Now healthy again, Mathis will attempt to revive his NFL career in Cleveland. The 27-year-old cornerback has totaled 103 tackles and nine pass breakups in 43 career games (18 starts) in the NFL.
