Tesla recalls 20,349 vehicles because headlights may reduce visibility for other drivers

A problem with headlight brightness has led Tesla to recall 20,349 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Documents posted by the agency say the recall impacts certain 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles.

In particular, the low beam headlights may be too bright and exceed the maximum light output allowed under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Headlights that exceed the maximum allowed intensity may reduce visibility for other drivers and other road users. Reduced visibility increases the risk of a crash.

Tesla did not indicate if it is aware of any injuries or crashes related to the issue.

A fix for the problem is currently in development, and owners of affected vehicles are expected to be notified via letter starting Sept. 15. For more information, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
