SC GOP National Committeeman passes away at 71

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The South Carolina GOP announced the passing of 71-year-old committeeman Glenn McCall on Friday following surgery complications.

McCall was Co-Chairman of the 2020 Republican National Convention Committee (RNC) on Arrangements and also served in several leadership roles for the Republican National Committee. He also led efforts on the RNC standing committee on rules to retain SC GOP “First in the South” Presidential Preference Primary Position.

“Glenn was not only a wonderful human being, but he was a great leader and representative for South Carolina on the Republican National Committee,” said SC GOP Chair Drew McKissick.

”Time and again, he used his influence and relationships to help maintain the SCGOP’s position as the First in the South presidential primary, and the resulting influence that gives Republicans all over our state. He will be sorely missed.”

In 2008, South Carolina Republicans elected McCall as their first Black Republican National Committeeman. McCall also served 24 years in the United States Air Force.

SC Attorney General Alan Wilson reacted to the death of McCall, saying:

“One of my favorite parts of being Attorney General is meeting and working with so many wonderful people. Glenn McCall was one of those extraordinary people. He supported me for years and was such a joy to all that knew him. Glenn did more for our Party and state than most people know, humbly working to advance our conservative values. Please join me in praying for his wife Linda and all that knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.”
