Dear Tri-City Community,
I am thrilled to share with you some momentous news that we believe will mark a transformative step forward for Tri-City Medical Center and the future of healthcare in North County San Diego. At the regular meeting of the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors held on October 26, 2023, a groundbreaking decision was made affiliating Tri-City Medical Center with UC San Diego Health!
This affiliation comes after careful consideration and due diligence, evaluating the proposals presented. UC San Diego Health’s dedication to world-class patient care aligns perfectly with our vision for TCMC. Their comprehensive plans to revitalize essential services and their commitment to expanding and enhancing healthcare services for our community were paramount in the choice.
The decision follows an intense period of scrutiny and negotiation during which several highly regarded healthcare systems, including UC San Diego Health, collaborated with our leadership to build a vision for the future of healthcare in North County. It is important to understand that the proposal today entails a significantly greater level of commitment on the part of both UCSD Health and TCMC, than the affiliation agreement created in 2015. UC San Diego Health’s proposal envisions a collaborative framework where they would actively manage the operational and administrative aspects of TCMC, including clinical, financial, and strategic functions, as well as taking responsibility for the healthcare facility, encompassing the buildings, equipment, and operations. As a result, this approach aims to modernize and enhance our healthcare services, and will create a world-class healthcare destination here on our campus.
UC San Diego Health’s commitment to growth and programmatic development including vital areas such as Labor & Delivery, Women’s Health, and advanced cancer care, promises to bring a healthcare experience that is second to none for the North County community.
As we look ahead, there is still much work to be done. The affiliation process involves various steps, including the formulation of agreements and obtaining necessary regulatory approvals. We remain committed to keeping the residents of our community engaged throughout this process as we move forward. In the coming months, we’ll hold a series of community engagement opportunities and town hall forums to solicit input and also answer many of the questions you might have as part of our commitment to our community.
I hope you share my enthusiasm for the future of Tri-City Medical Center. We are poised to fulfill our vision statement, to “be recognized as the healthcare system of choice in our community.”
