
“In a low trust environment, governments find it harder to do the reforms needed to boost economic performance and respond to new and evolving challenges.
Yet that very failure risks feeding further distrust. The core macroeconomic variables – growth, unemployment, and inflation – are some of the strongest predictors of trust in government. Economic stagnation and declining trust are a downward spiral we should work hard to avoid.”
