Johnson City to host new end-of-summer music festival

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) — Johnson City is getting a new end-of-summer music festival called “Lawnstock” and it’s all about keeping things laid-back.

After a summer where a lot of live music events got canceled because of rain, organizers started brainstorming a way to still give local and regional bands a stage and that’s how Lawnstock came to be.

It will be held at the Great Lawn at Founders Park, where you can expect live music, food trucks, local vendors and even a bunch of “hippie-style” blankets ordered just for the event.

We were brainstorming and we were like why not a big end of summer event do, end the summer on a high note. Events like these are really designed to help our local economy, connect downtown Johnson City or Main Street program is the one that puts on signature events like this, and it’s all designed to fundraise and support our downtown district, said City of Johnson City Special Events Manager, Sara DelBene.

“Lawnstock” is happening next weekend, Saturday, Aug. 22, at Founders Park from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.
