MANHATTAN, N.Y. (WFMZ-TV) — Welcome to New York! It’s where congratulations are in order for beloved popstar Taylor Swift and her husband, Travis Kelce.
Arguably the most famous pop singer in the world and Berks County native is marrying a likely football Hall of Famer.
Years of breakup songs have suddenly turned into wedding bells as the couple transforms Madison Square Garden (MSG) to tie the knot.
It is a massive day for “Swifties,” with some already billing the multi-day celebration as the “American royal wedding.” Could it be the ultimate ‘love story’ in New York City?
“It’s amazing. I love Taylor Swift,” said Leah Moss, a Colorado native. “I was like, I don’t think she’ll actually do it, but it looks like it is actually happening.”
While some say Swift could get married anywhere in the world, Moss, a lifelong self-proclaimed swiftie, said NYC just makes sense.
“This is one of the main places she lives. She has always talked about how much she loves this city,” Moss added. “I’ve, like, watched her grow up, in a sense, through her music, and to, like, see her get her happy ending just makes me so happy for her.”
If you’re ‘ready for it’, rumor has it that the stage is set for a weekend-long extravaganza. The celebration is completely taking over the area, closing several blocks in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
A reported event schedule listed that Swift and Kelce hosted a rehearsal dinner Thursday night. According to a city permit, the main event was set to start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, with festivities locked in as an all-night party going until 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
Record-breaking heat topped triple digits in the city, and a slew of barricades swarmed a majority of MSG. Extensive security and privacy measures were put into place, hinting to fans that their long-awaited dream wedding is finally true.
“There are so many things about, ‘oh, it’s like a hoax’, something like that. Yeah, but I wasn’t actually expecting it to happen here,” said Gray O’Sullivan of Brooklyn, who stopped by with Manhattan resident Frankie Root to catch a glimpse of the fairytale. “Her being such a private person, being such a guarded area, I think it’s good.”
“I’m just like, so happy that, like, he just, he’s treating her right, like, making her everything she deserves,” said Root.
Some fans traveled entirely across the country in hopes of catching a fleeting glimpse of their idol. Sarah Hopkin flew in all the way from Oregon for the big day.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to be here today. I flew in just for this. I have such hope for this couple. They’re real,” Hopkin said, adding that she is just “so happy to be around love.”
Kristina Bercka, who came with her brother from New Jersey, echoes that sentiment, thrilled that the pop star has finally found her “happily ever after.”
“She deserves it. And honestly, every heartache and horrible man has led her to Travis and her happily ever after,” said Bercka.
As for marriage advice for the new couple? Fans say the foundation is already there.
“I think, just about like open communication, like I think with Taylor and Travis, that’s definitely something that’s happening,” said O’Sullivan. “It’s just like really important for them, especially to just like take time for each other.”
