‘The Office’ star Lucy Davis receives wave of support after terminal cancer diagnosis

Lucy Davis, star of the original U.K. edition of “The Office,” is seeing an outpouring of love after sharing she has terminal cancer.

Davis played receptionist Dawn on the U.K. version of the show, alongside creator and star Ricky Gervais, from 2001 to 2003.

On Tuesday, she shared a post on Instagram revealing she was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

“A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo,” she wrote.

She continued, “As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that.”

Davis said that she felt an initial lump that she almost didn’t have checked out, encouraging fans “don’t ignore anything.”

She also noted that while she experiences pain and can get tired from just standing or walking and may occasionally use a wheelchair, she is hoping to continue working. “I’m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life.”

“I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it. I’ll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it’s far harder for them than for me.”

Fans and fellow actors shared their support for Davis after the post.

Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly, Dawn’s counterpart on the U.S. version of the show, wrote, “Beautiful post. Love you lots.”

Fischer, who was also treated for breast cancer, added, “And yes to working with cancer! Let’s spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort.”

Ricky Gervais commented with a simple heart emoji, while her “Shaun of the Dead” director Edgar Wright wrote, “Love you Lucy. Always. See you very soon.”
