Women’s Tennis Continues ITA Southwest Regionals

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team continued to battle in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Southwest Regionals at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. on Friday.
 
In the singles Main Draw, Hawai’i freshman Grete Gull captured the first set against San Diego State’s Gloria Alogo Piqueras, but fell In the last two frames, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
 
In the doubles Main Draw, two Hawai’i pairs advanced with strong wins. UH’s Makeilah Nepomuceno and Hannah Galindo doubled up on UC Irvine’s Quinn Brady and Amanda Perez, 8-4, while UH newcomers Sophie Rachor and Gull pulled away from Long Beach State’s Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare, 8-2. Both Nepomuceno/Galindo and Rachor/Gull will play at 6:00 a.m. HT on Saturday. Nepomuceno and Galindo will take on San Diego State’s Jo-Yee Chan/Vessa Turley, while Rachor and Gull will face San Diego’s Hannah Read/Vilma Krebs Hyllested.
 
On Friday in a consolation matches, UH’s Rachor swept UC Riverside’s Juliana Galindo, 6-3, 6-0.  UH’s Emma Forgac fought hard, forcing a third set tiebreaker against UC Irvine’s Carolyna Fowler, but fell in the super tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). Hawai’i’s Hannah Galindo was locked in a first set tie-breaker with Grand Canyon’s Peyton Duckett, but fell in two, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
 
The ITA Southwest Regionals continue on Saturday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego.
