The New York Jets are doing their homework on one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2026 NFL draft.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that general manager Darren Mougey is meeting with Miami quarterback Carson Beck on Sunday, March 22. Beck’s Pro Day is on Monday, March 23.
Beck is listed at 6-foot-5 and weighs 233 pounds.
A Sterling Resume for the Gifted Passer
Beck, 23, will turn 24 during his rookie season in the NFL.
He spent the first five years of his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs. Beck finished his collegiate run at Miami this past season.
Beck won two national championship rings as a backup quarterback at Georgia and was the starting QB for the Hurricanes in the national championship this year.
Across his decorated collegiate career, Beck appeared in 55 games. During that run, Beck completed 69.5% of his passes, threw for 11,725 passing yards, and had 88 touchdowns to 32 interceptions.
Over the last three seasons as a full-time starter, he averaged 3,746 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and completed 70% of his passes.
He guided Miami to a 13-3 record this season. That included four wins over teams ranked inside the top-25 during the regular season.
This past year, Beck delivered a career high in completion percentage (72.4%), passing touchdowns (30), completions (338), and passing attempts (467).
Evaluating Beck’s Current NFL Draft Stock
ESPN NFL draft analyst Jordan Reid has Beck ranked as the fourth-best quarterback in this year’s class.
He projects Beck to go “late day 2, early day 3.” For context, that means a late third-round pick or an early fourth-round pick.
At one point, Beck was in the running to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. However, Reid explained that “inconsistencies” led him to transfer from Georgia and ultimately end up at Miami this past offseason.
On the consensus big board, Beck is ranked as the No. 116 overall prospect and the fourth-best QB prospect in this class.
In the 2026 NFL draft, the Jets have nine picks overall. However, they don’t hold a pick in the third and sixth rounds, respectively.
The Jets don’t have a long-term answer at the quarterback position. It makes sense that the team would take a swing at some point during April’s draft. In this potential scenario, the Jets could build out their roster with the four picks inside the top-44. Then they could take a shot at a talented guy on the third day of the draft.
If it works out, the Jets just got a franchise quarterback on a bargain bin rookie deal. If it doesn’t work out, no worries, there is the 2027 NFL draft looming next year.
“Beck projects as a good backup with the potential to earn a starting job down the road, but he must continue developing game-managing instincts,” NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote.
Jets Are Also Doing Some Homework on the Other Miami Prospects
Beck won’t be the only player of interest to the Jets at Miami’s Pro Day.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic highlighted two star defenders that the Jets will be observing:
- Rueben Bain Jr
- Akheem Mesidor
On the consensus big board, Bain is ranked the seventh-best overall prospect, and Mesidor is listed as the 20th overall best prospect.
