Students invited to pitch their video game ideas for nationwide competition
K12 Enrichment Programs, a supplementary educational program designed to enrich the academic experience through extracurricular activities and contests, are calling upon public school students, from kindergarten through grade 12, to pitch their video game ideas from now until January 31, for a chance to win current generation gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.
The nationwide competition, called Game On, divides competing students based on grade level (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12), pitching their ideas for an educational video game in the first round then submitting a full proposal if they progress forward to round two. In the final round, competition finalists will be invited to create a video trailer of their game.
The competition materials will be judged by K12 staff and a panel of national experts including Steve Isaacs, Education Program Manager at Epic Games, Kurt Benkert, former NFL quarterback (who played with the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49’ers until joining the NFL) and nationally ranked Fortnite player.
“We’re calling on students to level up their creativity and craft the future of gaming for their fellow peers,” said Karen Ghidotti, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience and Advocacy at K12. “As our inaugural game development competition, we can’t wait to witness the extraordinary and imaginative concepts these students will unleash.”
Participants are eligible to earn prizes such as a Sony PlayStation5, Microsoft Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Valve Steam Deck, and Amazon Gift Cards valued up to $100. Each grade band will have two winners—one selected by our judges and one People’s Choice winner selected through public voting. Winners will be announced on March 29.
