Commanders QB Jayden Daniels expected to travel, practice in London | Latest NFL News, Analysis & Updates

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who dislocated his left elbow in a Week 2 loss in Dallas and did not play in Week 3, is expected to travel with the team and practice in some capacity in London this week, coach Dan Quinn said Monday afternoon.

Daniels’ availability for this weekend’s game against the Indianapolis Colts will be determined later in the week after the team has a chance to see him go through the workouts.

The Commanders leave for London on Tuesday evening and are scheduled to practice Wednesday through Friday before hosting the Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) will also return to practice in some form this week after missing the last two games because of injury. The status of right guard Sam Cosmi (concussion) and safety Nick Cross (internal injury), however, will be decided later after each player undergoes further testing.

Daniels suffered his elbow injury in the second quarter of Washington’s loss to the Cowboys. It was his second elbow dislocation in 10 months, having first injured the elbow in a Week 9 loss to the Seahawks last November.

Sustaining one dislocation, let alone multiple, raises the possibility of dislocating the elbow again. But exams of Daniels’ elbow showed no fractures or any extensive damage to the surrounding ligaments, potentially allowing him to return more quickly instead of facing immediate surgery and a spot on injured reserve.

It remains unclear if Daniels will need surgery at some point down the road. But for now he’s considered week-to-week in his recovery.

Daniels will wear a brace on his elbow, just as he did when he returned from the first dislocation late last season. He initially missed three games (four weeks including the bye) because of that injury, but the team later shut him down for the final four games after he aggravated the injury in a Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Daniels stood on the sideline for all of Washington’s upset win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Marcus Mariota started in his place and completed 19 of 31 passes for 183 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 110.0 passer rating.
