Colorado Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen Announces Resignation

MONUMENT, CO – June 9, 2025 – Senator Paul Lundeen, Senate Minority Leader, announced today that he will resign from the Colorado Senate and his leadership position effective June 9, 2025, to pursue new opportunities as leader of a national effort to promote personal freedom, economic opportunity, and common-sense conservative values.

Lundeen has served seven sessions in the Colorado Senate, as Senate Minority Leader since 2022, four sessions in the Colorado House of Representatives, and four years on the Colorado State Board of Education, including two as chairman.

His tenure has been defined by principled leadership and significant legislative accomplishments that have advanced the interests of Coloradans.

Among his notable achievements, Lundeen co-led a multi-year, bipartisan effort to rewrite Colorado’s public education funding formula, shifting the focus from institutional demands to the needs of students, ensuring more equitable and student-centered funding for students across the state. He played a key role in successfully cutting the state income tax rate, providing tangible relief to Colorado families and businesses. Lundeen also prime-sponsored multiple bills, now law, that strengthen law enforcement’s ability to combat human trafficking, working closely with the attorney general, district attorneys, and the Human Trafficking Council to protect vulnerable communities.

Additionally, he authored legislation to protect Coloradans’ data privacy from big tech and government overreach, supported funding for police departments to retain highly trained officers, and led efforts to widen Interstate 25 between Colorado Springs and Denver, a critical infrastructure improvement for El Paso County.

“Serving Colorado has been an honor and blessing,” said Lundeen. “I am grateful to the people of Senate District 9 for the opportunity to fight for policies that empower individuals, protect our communities, and promote prosperity. As I transition to a national platform, I am eager to continue advocating for personal freedom, economic opportunity, and common-sense conservative values.”

Lundeen is a successful entrepreneur, small business owner, and journalist.
