North Miami Beach rabbi tried to meet boy, 14, for ‘unlawful sex act’ 2 counties away, police say
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A North Miami Beach rabbi is accused of going two counties north to meet someone who he thought was a 14-year-old boy for an “unlawful sex act” on Thursday.
Police said when Levi Cash, 64, got to the meetup site ― a Target at 1200 Linton Blvd. in Delray Beach ― he was met by a self-proclaimed online “predator catcher” instead.
According to an arrest report from the Delray Beach Police Department, a man who runs the group “561 Predator Catchers” told investigators that he works in concert with “decoys” and “‘catches’ people attempting to meet with minors for sex.”
The report states that Cash and the decoy, “Tim,” messaged through the app Grindr. The arrest report lists multiple “sexually explicit messages that Cash sent the decoy.”
Cash, in one message, told the decoy “I teach home school kids” and offered to “tutor” the boy, according to police.
Police said the decoy told Cash to buy Dr. Pepper and condoms at the Target.
According to the report, when the decoy asked Cash what he wanted to “do,” Cash eventually replied, “I don’t want to put it in writing.”
“Upon doing a check of Cash online, it was learned that Cash claims to be a Kosher Supervisor for the Orthodox Rabbinical Counsel (sic) of Broward and is a professional Development and teacher coach at Catapult Learning,” the report states. “In Cash’s job description, it states that Cash has a strong focus on tutoring K-12 and supporting students with learning disabilities.”
A representative for Catapult Learning later told Local 10 News, however, that Cash “has not been employed with the organization since September 2024.”
Police arrested Cash on charges of traveling to meet a minor for an unlawful sex act and unlawful use of a communications device.
Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office records show he was being held at the agency’s Main Detention Center on a $60,000 bond as of early Monday evening.
