Beavers Win Team Title at Molly Collegiate Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s golf team protected its home course with a team championship at the Molly Collegiate Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Beavers concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 19-over 290-294-299—883 at the par-72, 6,432-yard layout to win the seven-team event.

The final round was delayed one hour, 15 minutes due to heavy fog in the area and the final holes were played in pouring rain and high wind gusts.

“There were adverse conditions and a lot of chaos, but we found a way to get it done,” Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. “We got the win and there is always something we can learn. We will get better from this and continue to grow.”

Kyra Ly and Kate Nakaoka both led Oregon State with a tie for fourth place finish after posting a 2-over 218.

Ly, a native of nearby Portland, recorded her 10th career Top 10 finish, the fourth most in program history, with scores of 69-72-77. She has started her senior campaign with a tie for fourth place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational and a tie for fourth at the local event.

Nakaoka, a true freshman Mililani, Hawai’i, posted scores of 76-70-72 for her first Top 10 finish as a collegian. She finished in 13th place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational to begin the fall season.

Raya Nakao finished in 23rd place with a 9-over 71-78-76—225, Kelly Hope shot a 10-over 74-75-77—226 to finish in a tie for 24th place and Clara Alevag finished in a tie for 31st with a 12-over 77-77-74—228.

Two Oregon State golfers competed as individuals – true freshman Faith Tufono finished in a tie for 10th place in her first collegiate event with a 5-over 74-72-75—221 and Rebecca Kim shot an 11-over 75-74-78—227 to finish in a tie for 27th place.

It is the 17th team title in Oregon State women’s golf history and the seventh for Shockley as the head coach of the program.
