Volleyball Falls to No. 14 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 10 TCU volleyball fell to No. 14 Kansas in straight sets on Wednesday night inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.

The Horned Frogs (16-4, 6-2 Big 12) couldn’t slow down the Jayhawks (15-7, 6-2 Big 12), who were fueled by a sellout crowd, dropping their first match in the month of October. Despite the loss, sophomore Evan Hendrix turned in her 10th consecutive double-double, finishing with 13 kills and 10 digs.

In the opening set, it looked as if TCU was going to run away with things. Back-to-back kills from Lauren Murphy gave the Frogs an early 11-5 lead and forced Kansas to call a timeout. The six-point advantage remained intact as TCU was the first team to 20. After calling a timeout down 21-15, the Jayhawks went on a 5-1 run to cut the lead to two. The Frogs then took a moment to reset with a timeout of their own, but Kansas continued to press on, tying the set at 23 all. Both teams had multiple set-point opportunities to secure the set, but in the end, it was the Jayhawks who came back to steal the first, 28-26.

With all the momentum from a come-from-behind win in set one, Kansas quickly jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second and never looked back. The Jayhawks cruised to a 25-16 victory to go up two sets on TCU.

Looking for a response, the Frogs battled to extend the match in the third set, which featured 11 ties and three lead changes. At the media break, it was Kansas who held a two-point advantage, but a kill from Sarah Sylvester and an ace by Samara Coleman tied the match back up at 16. After trading points late, Kansas managed to find three in a row late to earn match point. TCU fought off one, but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 25-22.

No. 10 TCU returns home to face No. 17 BYU on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. CT in Schollmaier Arena.
