Wings Global Travel has won its most challenging contract to date, managing travel arrangements for the chief operating officer of gifting giant North Pole Industries (NPI), dubbed the world’s busiest business traveller.

The deal covers a single multi-leg overnight journey spanning 89 million miles and 195 countries with an estimated 8.1 billion connections.

A spokes elf for NPI said: “We’ve always managed the travel arrangements for our COO Mr Claus inhouse, but the logistics are increasingly daunting. Sorting out the visa requirements alone takes our travel team months. We’ve begged the boss to spread his business trips over the year, but he’s adamant that it all needs to be done in a single night.”

Wings revealed that among the exacting requirements for Mr Claus’ annual trip are extra-wide seats, inflight wifi, a mince pie and mulled wine trolley service and an unlimited luggage allowance.

Commenting on the choice of Wings as its TMC partner, the spokes elf said: “Wings impressed us with their expertise in complex travel, combined with their experience of demanding VIP clients. Mr Claus always insists on a white-glove service. If anything goes wrong, we get to hear about it until next Christmas.”
Gary Povey, chief operating officer, Wings said: “To avoid disruption to our client’s journey, we seek customs clearance in advance. It’s not easy convincing the authorities that a single passenger is declaring goods to the value of £1 trillion as gifts.”

Duty of care is also a major concern. Povey said: “As Santa is travelling at 5.1 million miles an hour in an open sleigh there are some critical safety considerations. This includes hazardous rooftop landings and rapid chimney descents. Our risk management team have certainly had their work cut out.”
Other logistical challenges facing Wings include the complexity of rerouting for in-trip itinerary changes caused by bad weather or last-minute cancellations due to naughty children.

Wings declined to disclose the value of the contract, saying only that “It’s the thought that counts.”
