“At a time of year when many people are looking for simple ways to get moving, clear their heads and enjoy the outdoors, this investment helps more residents do exactly that – right on their doorstep,” Waltham added.

The project, which received government funding, is part of an initiative to support healthier lifestyles and tourism.

Councillor Christine Patterson, cabinet member for healthy lives and places, said: “Small, everyday choices like going for a walk make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing.

“This new boardwalk removes barriers and makes it easier for more people to get outside, be active and enjoy nature, especially at a time of year when that fresh air and movement really matter.

“Whether that’s a short winter stroll, walking the dog, or simply taking time out in a peaceful setting,” she added.
