The New England Patriots are coming off one of their best seasons in the post-Tom Brady era, with budding superstar quarterback Drake Maye and company making it all the way to Super Bowl LX in Mike Vrabel’s first season as head coach of the storied NFL franchise.
Even though the Patriots fell short in the Super Bowl against Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks, New England has a bright future ahead with Maye under center and Vrabel calling the shots on the sideline. The goal now is to surround Maye with talent to take the next step forward in becoming a perennial title contender in the AFC.

One intriguing addition to the Patriots’ roster would be star wide receiver AJ Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, who has been the subject of speculation about his future for quite some time and has a history with Vrabel from their time together with the Tennessee Titans.
Brown recently made an appearance on the Dudes on Dudes podcast with Patriots legends Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, sparking rumors that he might want a reunion with Vrabel, via Carlos A. Lopez.
“He’s gonna call on you in the meetings,” Brown said of Vrabel. “He wanna make sure that you’re staying engaged… At the time, I didn’t really like Vrabe. I didn’t like him. I admit that, he knows that. So, [in my notebook] I used to write ‘I hate Vrabe. I hate Vrabe. I hate Vrabe.’ Right? But, I was doing that to pretend like I was taking notes to look like I was engaged… He was so hard on me when I was rookie… I didn’t really understand what he was trying to push me to be.
“When I say he holds every single player accountable from top to bottom, I don’t care who it is; that’s who he is, and it makes the team come together because nobody is bigger than the team, nobody is bigger than the program, so you have to respect it.”
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for Brown and whether the Patriots and Vrabel would be intrigued at the prospect of trading for the Eagles star. Brown would definitely give Maye that downfield threat and proven winner to help New England take the next step in 2026.

If the Patriots are interested in trading for Brown, Moe Morton of Bleacher Report wrote about an idea of what the trade would look like, and it seems like a no-brainer for New England.

Philadelphia Eagles Get: 2026 3rd-rounder, CB Carlton Davis III
Only time will tell what the Patriots’ brass decides to do during the NFL offseason to upgrade their roster, but Brown is an intriguing option that would make the team’s passing attack that much more dangerous during the 2026 campaign.
