GTA 6 May Push Video Game Prices Into New Territory

Speculation around the launch price of Grand Theft Auto 6 has ignited debate among gamers after a third-party retailer briefly listed the highly anticipated title online.

A product page from digital storefront Loaded (formerly CDKeys) showed GTA 6 priced at £89.99 for Xbox Series X and Series S.

Converted to local currency, that would equate to roughly A$175–A$185, depending on exchange rates and regional adjustments. A separate PC listing appeared at £60.99, or approximately A$120–A$130.

The listings have since been marked as “notify” rather than available for purchase, strongly suggesting the figures may be placeholders rather than confirmed retail pricing.

Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive have not announced official pricing. At this stage, GTA 6 has only been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no formal confirmation of a PC launch window.

The appearance of a PC listing has further fuelled speculation that a computer release may follow consoles, as seen with previous Rockstar titles.

Analysts have long suggested that GTA 6 could test the upper limits of AAA pricing. Development costs are reportedly among the highest in gaming history, with estimates ranging up to US$1–2 billion (A$1.5–A$3 billion).

Rising development costs, inflation and expanding online services are pushing game prices higher worldwide.

For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013 at the then-standard AAA price point of around A$99 in Australia. A jump to the A$170 range would represent a significant shift in the premium console market.

However, retailers often upload estimated pricing ahead of major releases to prepare backend systems or gauge interest. Until Rockstar confirms details, the figures should be treated with caution.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently scheduled for release on 19 November, following earlier delays.

With marketing expected to ramp up mid-year, official pre-order pricing is likely to be revealed in the coming months.
