Labor Day weather outlook: Rain chances drop, breezy at the coast

ORLANDO, Fla. – Planning something outdoors this Labor Day in Central Florida? Rain chances are lower to kick off the week.

The morning is expected to start mostly dry, with only about a 20% chance of an isolated shower. By 2 p.m., there’s a slightly higher 30% chance you’ll see a brief shower or thunderstorm, rising to 40% by mid-afternoon.

Monday’s forecast

If you’re heading to the beach, expect breezy conditions—especially along the Atlantic coast. Temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid-80s by the middle of the afternoon. Water temps are sitting comfortably in the lower 80s. However, the rip current risk is high, so extra caution is advised if you plan to get in the water.

Afternoon hours look like your best bet for sunshine between quick showers, so be sure to keep the rain gear close by, just in case.

Tracking a new tropical wave

Meteorologist Michelle Morgan is keeping a close watch on a new tropical wave emerging off the coast of Africa. According to the latest graphic from the National Hurricane Center, this disturbance is showing healthy development and has a 40% chance of becoming a tropical system over the next seven days.

NHC 8 p.m. outlook

The wave is expected to move westward, but as of now, there is no indication of direct impacts to Central Florida. News 6’s Pinpoint Weather team will continue to monitor the situation as more information comes in.

In the closer term, Central Florida is still dealing with a stationary front draped over the region, with two areas of low pressure—one over the Gulf and the other just off the Atlantic side. This setup is making local winds breezy, especially along the coast.

7-day forecast: Higher rain chances midweek, warming by the weekend

The week starts off warm with high temperatures around 89 degrees on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday, however, show the highest chances for rain—both days are forecast at 70% coverage. Cooler high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s are expected during this stretch.

Rain chances

By Friday and into the weekend, drier conditions are likely to return, and temperatures are set to climb back into the low 90s. Rain chances drop to about 40% heading into the weekend, making outdoor plans a little more promising.

For those keeping up with local highs, forecast temperatures include 88 degrees in Claremont, 87 in Kissimmee, 85 in Daytona Beach, and 86 in Cape Canaveral.
