My favorite thing about the new year? Using my spidey senses to predict the trends that are going to blow up in the coming months. I already foresee Dakota Johnson’s patent leather sneakers will replace white kicks, and after a recent sighting of Jennifer Aniston, I’m saying goodbye to baggy jeans because there’s a new It denim style that’s going to be everywhere—well, it kind of, sort of already is: cigarette jeans.
Jennifer Aniston.
Backgrid
Aniston was spotted out and about wearing a cozy-chic outfit that had all the makings of a copy-worthy look. She opted for a green pebbled knit sweater, stone-colored puffer coat that she carried in hand (because it was probably too warm to wear it), and a black hobo shoulder bag. While those staples were great and all, those medium-wash cigarette jeans made the look—and of course, the black, pointed-toe boots she paired them with.
Aniston’s sighting is one of the many that shines light on said cigarette jeans. And if you’re unfamiliar with the denim silhouette, now’s the time to inform yourself because it’ll be everywhere soon. Put simply, cigarette jeans have a slim fit that’s not quite as constricting as skinny jeans (skinny jean-haters, these are for you), but they’re slightly more fitted than a classic straight-leg. They can stop at the ankle or, in Aniston’s case, be floor-grazing, and if you opt for the latter, consider a similar style move: pairing them with black boots to really show off the slim-fit hem.Â
Cigarette jeans are the perfect in-between style; big, baggy jeans are still in, but if you want something that leans more refined and French-girl chic, cigarette pants are for you. They’re flattering and rich-looking, and celebs of all ages are on board; just a few weeks ago, Hailey Bieber took an ankle version out for a spin.Â
TL;DR? This sleek denim style is about to blow up, and I, for one, don’t want to wait to snag a few pairs. Shop the cigarette jeans I’m eyeing, below.
