GOLF, Ill. (SMU) – SMU women’s golf finished in third place at the Windy City Classic from Glen View Golf Club.

“A solid team showing this week — a total group effort to finish at the top of the leaderboard after a couple of weeks off following our return from Japan.” said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason.

“We had a slow start out of the gate this morning battling last year’s reigning NCAA Champions/Tournament hosts but in the end we just didn’t have enough to get it done this week.”

“I know we have a great team with a lot of depth, and I expect we’ll be near the top of leaderboards often this season,” added Mason. “It was great to show some of that depth this week across all players! A few things to tidy up over the next few days before we’re back in Chicago this weekend.”

The Mustangs came into the day in second place, trailing 2025 National Champions Northwestern by two strokes. The Mustangs finished behind Duke, ranked top nine in the country, and Northwestern, in the final leaderboard. The team shot five-over on the final day. Their best round of the tournament came with a six-under score in round one. The Mustangs finished in front of four teams ranked or receiving votes: Virginia, UCLA, Michigan State, and Iowa State. The third-place finish was the 23rd top three showing in the Lauren Mason era.

Senior Emily Odwin was one of three Mustangs that finished in the top 20 of the tournament. Odwin shot two-over on the final day to finish at two-under and in a tie for 14th place. Her best round of the week came in a five birdie, two bogey second-round performance. Odwin recorded her 13th top 20 finish in 23 starts as a Mustang.

Uma Bergner and Mackenzie Lee each tied for 18th at even par. Lee shot even par in the final round to move up the leaderboard. Lee shot a 67 in her opening round. The finish gave Lee 27 top-20 finishes in 40 SMU starts. Bergner, making her first start in the Mustang lineup, carded a 74 in the final round. She carded two 71s on day one.

Celine Chen shot two-under across her final 10 holes and finished with a 74. She earned a share of 22nd on the week highlighted by a 68 in round two. Grace Jin moved up five spots during the final round. She finished in a tie for 35th after a third-round 73.

Next up for the Mustangs, SMU takes on the Illini Women’s Invitational in Medinah, Illinois, also in the Chicago area. The tournament runs Oct. 6-7.
