FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A 60-year-old man who once taught within the Broward County Public Schools system before being accused of stalking ― and then sharing child sexual abuse videos ― is now facing a federal charge.

On July 1, Coral Springs police arrested Craig Rogers on state charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material, allegations that a BCPS spokesperson said at the time left officials “deeply disturbed.” He’s been jailed ever since.

On Friday, federal authorities filed a criminal complaint against the former Westchester Elementary School physical education teacher, accusing him of distributing illicit videos across state lines.

Police said the local investigation into Rogers began on May 22 when the National Center of Missing and Endangered Children shared a tip that he was “sharing child pornography with other users through the Kik social media platform” of young girls being abused.

Authorities said Rogers described himself as a “pervert teacher” as he shared videos of children being sexually abused. Authorities also said he shared photos of “clothed students engaged in physical education” and photos of his genitals taken in his school office.

According to the federal criminal complaint, Coral Springs police contacted the FBI after arresting Rogers.

A police detective in Middlesex County, New Jersey had gotten in touch with Coral Springs detectives after making an arrest in the Garden State, it states.

According to the FBI, the New Jersey suspect had chatted with a person who represented himself as a teacher who, in one instance, said he “took pictures of my favorite students today” and talked about “trading” content.

Authorities said they were able to trace the account back to Rogers.

In addition to a potential state sentence, he now faces the additional possibility of up to two decades in federal prison if convicted. The latter case is being prosecuted in Fort Lauderdale federal court.

His stalking case, in which he was accused of harassing a family living next door to him in Coral Springs, also remained active as of Monday. BCPS officials said in July that he had been reassigned away from the classroom in April following his arrest in that case.

Rogers, as of Monday, was being held in the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, according to jail records.
