Welcome back to The Video Game Library Newsletter!
Sitting here on my birthday writing this intro, I’m reflecting back on a very busy few weeks of family, friends, work and play. We’re rounding out what’s easily been the busiest August since starting this project with more than 60 new announcements and releases to dig into. The Asian and European markets have been especially impressive this week, and it’s been really fun to uncover the obscure titles that have totally flown under the radar of the usual outlets.
Behind the scenes, the volunteers have also been incredible. Volunteer João has completely shattered my previous record, by cataloguing more than 250 books since the last newsletter earlier this month. Add in everything the rest of the team has been working on, and it’s been an incredibly productive week for the project.
And in the Book Spotlight section, I chat about Jacob Geller’s “How A Game Lives”, which was actually a pretty profound read for me.
Got some feedback this Spring and Summer, so I’ve decided to slightly tweak how this newsletter is presented. The asks have been for more details on each announcement, so (where relevant) you’ll now find links to TheVideoGameLibrary.org for each of the records where you can learn everything about that particular book. Once again, a very special shoutout to João for some very heavy last-minute lifting to get these all ready to go.
I know most of you have marked your calendars this week for Thursday’s GTA VI Extended Look (or perhaps even better, the Final Fantasy VII Revelation news that’ll be coming out of Gamescom), but hopefully you have a few moments to check out all the amazing news in the world of Video Game Literature below.
Let’s dive in!
