This Week in ACC Volleyball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball season launches this weekend as all 18 ACC programs take the court for the first full weekend of play, running Friday, August 29, through Monday, September 1.
The ACC will feature two ranked top-20 matchups this week, as No. 10 SMU will take on No. 20 Baylor on Saturday, August 30, at 4:30 p.m. ET. No. 1 Pitt will host No. 13 Arizona State at the PPG Paints Arena for the second annual State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Monday, September 1, at 7:30 p.m. ET, in the second ranked matchup of the week.
In the AVCA/Taraflex Preseason Poll, Pitt led the ACC, coming in at the No. 3 spot, with Louisville (No. 4), Stanford (No. 6), SMU (No. 10) and Georgia Tech (No. 22) filling out the rest of the top 25. The ACC had the most teams in the top 10 of any conference.
Noting ACC Volleyball
- In the AVCA/Taraflex Preseason Poll, Pitt led the ACC in the No. 3 spot, with Louisville (No. 4), Stanford (No. 6), SMU (No. 10) and Georgia Tech (No. 22) also ranking in the top 25. The ACC had the most teams in the top 10 of any conference.
- Pitt junior right side hitter Olivia Babcock surpassed 1,000 career kills on Sunday, August 24, against No. 16 Florida.
- Pitt was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Championship for the second straight year by the league’s volleyball head coaches.
- Seven ACC standouts were named to the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Watch List. The list included Chloe Chicoine (Louisville), Cara Cresse (Louisville), Flormarie Heredia Colon (Miami), Olivia Babcock (Pitt), Bre Kelley (Pitt), Malaya Jones (SMU) and Elia Rubin (Stanford).
- Florida State’s Chris Poole ranks first among active coaches with 939 victories in 39 seasons. Duke’s Jolene Nagel ranks fifth on that list with 712 career wins.
- Louisville’s Dan Meske, NC State’s Megan Wargo-Kearney and Wake Forest’s Jeff Hulsmeyer are all in their first year as head coach of their programs.
- ESPN Events announced the inaugural “Showdown at the Net”, which will feature 16 ACC teams and 16 SEC teams. ESPN will host one neutral site event with two teams from each conference (Louisville vs. Texas and Pitt vs. Kentucky) while all other matches will take place on ACC or SEC campuses.
