COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Villanova University field hockey team will open its 2025 season on the road against James Madison on Friday (Aug. 29) at 3 p.m. ET from the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. The Wildcats will then stay there to face Maryland. (Aug. 31) at 2 p.m. ET.

Villanova will meet the Dukes for the third consecutive season. The Wildcats came up just short in last year’s matchup, falling 2-1 after James Madison netted the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter. However, Villanova claimed the upper hand in 2023, securing a thrilling 5-4 victory.

James Madison is coming off a season where they went 14-6, with a 7-1 record in their conference. Friday’s game with be the fourth matchup between the ‘Cats and Dukes. Villanova has 1-2 record in those first three games.

Maryland is looking to get back to the NCAA Tournament in 2025 after finishing the 2024 season 13-7. Sunday’s game will mark the fourth matchup between the Wildcats and Terrapins, with Maryland winning the first three games. This will be the first matchup between the two schools since 2011.

Both games this weekend will be streamed live on Big Ten+.
