Why Has The Halloween Video Game Been Officially BANNED In Australia?

We’ve been counting down to the release of the forthcoming Halloween video game since its announcement, but it appears Australian and New Zealand fans are set to miss out on playing it altogether after a rating was denied by the Australian Classifications Board.

Urgh….

In a post on Twitter (not called it the other name), game developers, Illfonic, stated:

“Despite every effort on our part, the Australian Classifications Board has denied “Halloween: The Game” a rating. The denial was not based on the presence of the iconic slasher, Michael Myers, or the outstanding kills that can be performed in the game, but rather the presence of a controlled substance. Unfortunately, to our disappointment (and certainly yours) this means that we cannot sell the physical or digital product in both Australia and New Zealand.”

Some gamers are reporting the title has been removed from online digital stores across various platforms. It was supposed to be released on September 8th across PS5, SERIES X|S, PC platforms and pre-orders were open.

It was announced Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas was set to be a playable character in the game. Maybe a character that was in “the presence of a controlled substance”? Who knows, because we certainly won’t be anymore.

It’s not the first time Australia has been absolutely fucking cucked by the government over “art”. Throughout the years, “violent” video games have been refused ratings and prohibited to be sold down under (i.e. Mortal Kombat, Hatred and F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin) and fans had to purchase copies from overseas sellers – oh how ancient and backwards we sound to the rest of the world.

We also had to wait until January 2013 before an R 18+ adult classification for video games officially came into effect in Australia.

What will the classification board say when GTA 6 rolls around…
