Amid rumors that the Miami Dolphins are looking to trade De’Von Achane, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan told reporters that signing the running back to a contract extension is a “priority” for the team.
“Achane, is a very, very, very important piece of what we’re gonna do moving forward,” Sullivan said, via The Palm Beach Post. “He’s a building block for us. It is a priority for us to get a deal done with him in the coming weeks, months.”
Achane, 24, can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He’s likely due for a significant raise after rushing for 1,350 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. He added another 488 yards and 4 TDs receiving on 67 receptions.
He’s set to be paid $1.4 million this season, one of the lowest salaries for a starting running back in the NFL.
