Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is preparing for a major spring travel surge, with more than 8.3 million passengers expected to pass through the airport this month.

CHECK TSA WAIT TIMES

What we know:

Airport officials say April 3 could be one of the busiest travel days on record. The Transportation Security Administration is anticipating about 115,000 security screenings, which would surpass ATL’s previous single-day record of 111,000 set in May 2024.

With spring break travel underway, officials are encouraging passengers to plan ahead. The busiest days for leisure travel are typically Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Travelers are advised to arrive at least 2.5 hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures.

Passengers are also encouraged to stay informed by checking ATL’s website and social media channels for real-time updates on security wait times, parking and airport amenities. Travelers should also review TSA guidelines before packing to avoid bringing prohibited items. Firearms and ammunition must be properly secured in checked luggage.

Airport leaders say the goal is to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience as passenger volumes climb during the busy spring season.
