Strauss Sets New Program Record at Duke Invitational
DURHAM, N.C.— UConn men’s and women’s track and field posted strong showings this weekend, competing in the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Huskies set a new school record and notched five more program all-time top 10 marks.
Women’s Track:
- Brooke Strauss shattered the new program record in the 1500m on Friday night, with a time of 4:14.36, finishing fourth in the meet overall.
- Brooklyn Taylor qualified for the 100m hurdle finals, finishing fifth with a time of 13.73.
- Anna Connors placed 22nd in the 400m, crossing the line in 56.33.
- Kiley Shatzel set a new personal-best in the 400m hurdles, with a finishing time of 1:00.47, the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Men’s Track:
- Medwin Odamtten finished third in the 100m with a time of 10.37, a personal-best and tied for the third-fastest mark in program history.
- Mekhi Stone finished 23rd in the 400m with a time of 47.84. Del Lindsay crossed in 48.41, finishing 29th overall.
- O.J. Singletary finished in 16th in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 53.37.
- Nicholas Wright set a personal-best in the 200m, with a time of 21.68.
Women’s Field:
- Gabriela DeFelice finished 18th in the hammer throw at 48.55m.
- Kaylee Meyer tied a personal-best in the high jump, finishing third at 1.68m.
- DeFelice claimed 18th in the discus at 43.24m.
- Jaidah Garrett placed 12th in the long jump at 5.87m. Jalynn Smith set a personal-best, jumping 5.64m, finishing 16th overall.
- Caitlin Dumouchel took 12th place in the javelin at 38.36m.
- Piper Linn finished fifth in the pole vault group B , with an outdoor personal-best of 3.78m. Abigail Bernas set a personal best at 3.63m, good for 14th place. Rachel Mason finished seventh in group A, vaulting 3.78m.
- Sinclaire Fryer finished 15th in the shot put, with a top throw of 13.96m. Brook-lynn Roberts took 19th with a throw of 13.33m.
Men’s Field:
- Marshall Potter finished fifth in the hammer throw, with a personal best throw of 61.93m, moving up to seventh-best in program history. Alex Krause finished eighth at 58.85m and Lucas DeCrescenzo took 11th with a personal-best of 54.32m.
- Derek Shimer won the high jump competition at 2.14m, tying the seventh-best performance in program history. Enaji Muhammad and Dar Jankovic both finished in the top 10. Muhammad jumped 2.06m to finish seventh and Jankovic cleared 2.01m to finish eighth.
- Potter finished 14th in the discus at 47.25m. The freshman also took second in the shot put at 17.63m.
- Wyatt Martin won the pole vault group B competition, clearing 4.81m.
Up Next: The Huskies will return home next weekend to host the Northeast Challenge on Friday, April 17th, and Saturday, April 18th. Josh Mooney, Diarmuid O’Connor, and Maresa Hense will head west for the Mt. SAC Relays, competing in the multi-events on Wednesday and Thursday in Walnut, California.
