Environment Canada has issued a yellow-level wind warning for parts of southwestern and west-central Manitoba, with strong gusts expected to move through the region Sunday afternoon.
The warning covers areas stretching from the southwestern corner of the province through parts of the Parkland and west-central regions, including communities near Brandon and Riding Mountain.
Forecasters say a line of fast-moving showers and possible thundershowers developed over southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba earlier in the day, bringing the risk of severe wind gusts.
Wind speeds could exceed 90 kilometres per hour in some areas as the system passes.
Environment Canada says the line of storms is expected to move out of the region by this evening.
Potential impacts
The national weather agency warns the gusty conditions could cause damage to roofs, fences, tree branches, and temporary structures.
Power outages and travel disruptions are also possible.
Similar wind events in southern Manitoba have previously brought gusts near or above 90 km/h, leading to hazardous driving conditions and minor structural damage.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
