STODDARD, WI (WKBT)– The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge hosting a free bird walk Wednesday.
In springtime, thousands of migratory songbirds rest in the area, some of which travel hundreds of miles from their wintering grounds.
Some will nest in the area, while others will move north in a week or two.
Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Ranger Katie Julien says the area is especially unique for spotting songbirds. “We get to see a lot of different species that not everyone across the country has the opportunity to see… I also just appreciate that folks in the community here are so interested in wildlife and have such an appreciation for the natural places we have.”
The bird walk comes just in time for “World Migratory Bird Day” on May 9.
