LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Michigan men’s track and field team closed out the NCAA East First Round on Friday (May 29) at UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex. Four Wolverines qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with two of them setting records.
Miles Brown set the program 800-meter run record on the way to an NCAA Outdoor Championships berth, clocking a time of 1:44.68 to finish second overall. Brown is the first Wolverine to break 1:45.00. Camden Law also advanced to the Championships after finishing second in his heat with a time of 1:46.00. John O’Reilly placed 16th with a time of 1:47.04.
A pair of Wolverines punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500-meter run for the second straight year. Trent McFarland finished first overall with a time of 3:38.04, setting the facility record, while sophomore Brendan Herger finished third in his heat with a time of 3:42.87. Riley Flemington finished 20th with a time of 3:44.29.
In the 5,000-meter run, Nathan Lopez finished 18th with a time of 13:59.97 and Heath McAllister finished 38th with a time of 14:24.19.
Zane Forist finished 15th in the discus throw with a mark of 56.33m (184 feet, 9 inches).
U-M will close out the postseason at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. Brown, Law, McFarland and Herger will join Quincy Isaac at Hayward Field after the freshman qualified Wednesday (May 27) in the long jump.
