Plans submitted to build first Buc-ee’s in Indiana
A proposal to develop land near Interstate 65 in Greenwood outlines plans for the first Buc-ee’s travel center in the Hoosier State.
GREENWOOD, Ind. — Indiana appears to be one step closer to getting its first Buc-ee’s.
A proposal to rezone an 80-acre site in Greenwood outlines plans to build the popular travel center in the Hoosier State for the first time.
It was reported last November that Buc-ee’s was close to a deal to buy land on the southeast corner of Interstate 65 and Worthsville Road. The proposal submitted to the Greenwood Advisory Plan Commission includes plans to build the 74,000-square-foot travel center on more than 37 acres south of Worthsville Road, immediately west of Collins Road, with a roundabout proposed for the intersection of Worthsville and Collins roads.
The Buc-ee’s would include 120 fueling stations, in addition to charging facilities for electric vehicles. The plan also proposes walking trails with a connection to the Greenwood trail system.
The proposal is set to go before the Greenwood Plan Commission at their June 22 meeting, but may be continued to July before being heard by the city’s Common Council.
There are currently 55 Buc-ee’s locations nationwide, including 36 in Texas alone, but the closest to Indianapolis is located near Dayton, Ohio, which opened earlier this year. Before the Ohio travel center opened, the nearest Buc-ee’s to central Indiana is the location in Richmond, Kentucky, about 220 miles away from downtown Indianapolis.
Buc-ee’s is known for its large size, having numerous gas stations, clean bathrooms, its extensive food and drink options – including Beaver Nuggets, fresh-smoked brisket and jerky – and its themed merchandise.
