Impact of the Medical Training Prioritisation Act

The Act prioritises UK trained medical graduates and those who have ‘significant’ NHS experience. For 2025, immigration status has been used as a proxy measure while discussions on what constitutes ‘significant’ experience are ongoing.

NHS England has published NHS specialty recruitment data from the Oriel recruitment system, key points are:

• prioritised doctors have filled 98 per cent of roles
• for the first time ever, 100 per cent of GP training places were accepted by UK graduates or applicants already working in the NHS.
