There have been some awesome nicknames in Pittsburgh Steelers history, and DK Metcalf may have handed out another amazing title to a seventh-round rookie.
On a new episode of the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, former Navy Midshipman and current Steelers rookie Eli Heidenreich revealed that Metcalf gave him a pretty cool nickname: Captain America.
“DK Metcalf, a few weeks ago in practice, he asked me, ‘Are you okay if I call you Captain America?'” Heidenreich said. “I was like, ‘Absolutely, DK, you can call me Captain America.’ I’m honored.”
Heidenreich, selected by the Steelers with the 230th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft, set records at Navy thanks to his wide receiver-running back versatility. And it’s his pass-catching ability, coupled with his pure athleticism, that’s drawn comparisons to the likes of Christian McCaffrey.
Given his impressive versatility, Heidenreich, AKA “Captain America,” should win a spot on the 53-man roster. But it’s unlikely he’ll have a big role as a rookie given the impressive running back depth.
