Alaska Hospital Creates a Healing Environment for Patients in Recovery
In Anchorage, hospital beds are increasingly occupied by patients who are medically ready to leave but have nowhere to go while they wait for short-term nursing and rehabilitation services. To help address this growing challenge, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is building a new skilled nursing facility on the Alaska Native Medical Center campus.
Scheduled to open in March 2027, the facility will provide up to 80 beds for patients who are well enough to leave the hospital but still require additional care and recovery support before returning home. As the facility nears completion, ANTHC is seeking artwork from Alaska Native and American Indian artists to help create a healing, culturally connected environment.
Through a request for information, artists are invited to submit existing works or concepts for consideration. ANTHC says the artwork will help make the facility feel more like home while supporting patients during their recovery and rehabilitation. Their goal? To have all 11 of the Alaskan Native cultural groups represented.
