Where can you hail a Tesla Cybercab?

While you can currently order a driverless ride through Tesla’s Robotaxi app in cities such as Houston and Orlando, if you want a chance at cruising in the newly launched Cybercab, that’s only available in the Texas capital.

This week, Tesla released the Cybercab on Austin streets. The vehicle is designed to be fully autonomous: no steering wheel or break pedal to be seen, just a bench seat for two passengers and trunk space for luggage. The company is authorized to operate 314 driverless cars in Texas, but most are Model Ys; only 45 are Cybercabs.

The vehicle’s launch didn’t come without controversy, however. Gizmodo reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday opened an investigation into “the process and technical data on which Tesla relied when certifying the Cybercab and related issues.”
