BOONE, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s & women’s cross country teams took part in their third race of the season on Friday, completing the App State Firetower Project Run. The men ran an 8k while the women completed at 6k.

The men finished in 11th while the women placed eighth.

Finishing first for the men was Sam Sosebee, who came through with a time of 28:35.0, an average of 5:45 per mile. Just four spots behind him was sophomore Chase Bryant, finishing in 28:58.1, just 20 seconds off his personal best. Cristian Cabascango broke the 30 minute barrier with a time of 29:45.9. Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was Paul Williams (30:17.6) and Killian Daguet (30:29.4).

On the women’s side of things, Maria Carmona set a new personal best by nearly a minute and a half, finishing the 6k course in 22:35.1, placing 33rd out of 109 runners. She was also the third Division II runner across the line. Not far behind her was freshman Regly Jemutai, who also broke the 23 minute barrier with a time of 22:54.0. Finishing right next to each other was Caitlyn Christie (24.23.7) and Olivia Overholt (24:24.8), taking 82nd and 83rd, respectively. Tigist Siler (25:35.0) and Mathilde Etienne (25:58.0) closed it out for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne will be right back at it again next week when they travel to Charlotte to take part in the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens. The race will be run on Friday at McAlpine Creek Park, the same location as the Queen City Invite a few weeks ago.
