Reggie Gaffney Sr. opens campaign account to run for Florida House seat currently held by Rep. Angie Nixon

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A second Democrat has opened a campaign account to run in 2026 for the Florida House seat held by Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville.

Reginald Gaffney opened the account on Wednesday in Duval County’s House District 13, according to the state Division of Elections website. Democrat Shemiah Faye Rutledge opened an account in August.

Nixon has not opened an account to run for re-election, and on Thursday, posted to social media saying she would not be seeking re-election for her seat.

Nixon, who has served two full terms in the Florida House of Representatives and is in her third term, currently serves the district that covers parts of Jacksonville, including parts of the city’s Westside and Northside.

Gaffney Sr., a Florida A&M grad, served two terms on Jacksonville’s City Council beginning in 2015, serving District 7.

According to his city council bio page, he was appointed to several board positions by former Florida governors Charlie Crist and Rick Scott, and in 2012, was invited by former Senator Marco Rubio to serve as a member on his academy nomination board.
