Syracuse (4-1-3) opens ACC play on Thursday, Sept. 11, when it faces Southern Methodist (5-2-0) at 7:00 p.m at the SU Soccer Stadium. 

The Syracuse-SMU Series

Southern Methodist owns a 1-0-0 record in the series with Syracuse. Their only previous meeting came on Sept. 12, 2024, and the Mustangs defeated the Orange, 4-1. 

Syracuse Status

The Orange come into the match following a 3-0 victory at home against Cornell on the team’s Senior Day. 

Redshirt Senior Mia Klammer scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season during the triumph over the Big Red. Senior Anna Rupert and sophomore Gabby Wisbeck each tallied their first goals of the season in the match.

Klammer has a squad-best 13 points (five goals-three assists). Graduate student Ashley Rauch has four goals and three assists, for 11 points on the campaign. 

Senior Shea Vanderbosch has started the first eight games of the season and owns a goals against average of 0.53 and a save percentage of .886. She has recorded a shutout in three straight matches. 

SMU Status

Southern Methodist (5-2-0) is coming off back-to-back home victories against Houston Christian (3-0) and Sam Houston (3-1). 

Graduate student Sammy Nieves leads the squad with seven points. She is currently tied for seventh in the nation with five assists and also has a goal on the season. Nieves recorded a hat-trick of assists in a 4-3 win at North Texas. Four players have two goals each for the Mustangs. 

Graduate goalkeeper Haven Empey-Taylor has started three of the last four matches. She has a 0.00 goals against average and a .689 save percentage.
