Weather Alert: Super Typhoon Bavi

Location:   Southeastern China:  Shanghai, Anhui, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Guangdong Provinces

Event:   Super Typhoon Bavi is approaching Fujian province in Guangzhou’s consular district and Zhejiang province in Shanghai’s consular district. The maximum wind speed near the center of the super typhoon has reached Force 17 (60 m/s), with risks of torrential rainfall and flooding as it is expected to make landfall along the coastal areas of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces July 10-11, 2026.

Eastern Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai, central and western Guangdong are expected to receive heavy to torrential rainfall.

Provinces throughout the southeastern region may issue code orange typhoon warnings – indicating the potential for localized structural damage and disruption to transportation and utilities.

Travelers should expect significant disruptions to services and transportation in southern eastern China during this time.

• Avoid coastal areas.
• Monitor the local news for updates.
• Check your emergency kit to ensure you have needed medicines and other supplies.
• Seek secure shelter.
• Protect your important documents including your passport.
• Visit the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) for updated storm tracking information.
