WASHINGTON (TNND) — HBO host Bill Maher said over the weekend that he could potentially vote for Vice President J.D. Vance in 2028 if the Democratic presidential candidate aligns more with socialism.
During an ABC News interview, Maher answered, “Yes,” when asked if he would potentially vote for Vance.
He was discussing the Democratic Socialists of America with “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl.
“My vote is in play because it can’t be Trump running, so I’m not living in communist America,” he said during the interview, according to Fox News Digital.
He called the Democrats “cowardly” for not standing up to the far-left wing of the party.
Maher is still critical of Republicans but says he won’t ignore certain radicals in the Democratic Party.
“I didn’t change really on what I thought about the right, but just, I can’t sit and just not notice stuff which people seem to want to do because it’s all about my team or your team,” he stated. “But you know there’s some crazy stuff. You know, when we’re cheering for the Intifada, I cut, I’m out.”
He predicted that the Democrats would do well in the 2026 midterms.
“2028 is a different story because by then this wing of the party, this new wing with all the energy, and it’s not just a few people anymore,” Maher said.
Maher interviewed Vance during his June show, “Real Time with Bill Maher” before taking a summer break and receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
