Gas price average tops $6 in California – Whittier Daily News
The average price of a gallon of regular gas in California topped $6 on Thursday as the price of oil surged above $120 a barrel.
For many counties in Southern California, gas prices are the highest they’ve been since 2023. Depending on where you live, $6 gas might have already been a reality, especially in the tony neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles County, the average rose to $6.10, the highest since Oct. 5, 2023. The average price has risen 18.4 cents in eight consecutive days, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The streak of increases follows a 14-day streak of decreases totaling 12.8 cents.

The average price is 15.5 cents more than a week ago, 11 cents higher than one month ago and $1.328 above what it was one year ago. It has risen $1.41 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran Feb. 28, moving within 39 cents of the record $6.494 set on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price rose to its highest since October 2023, increasing 2.3 cents to $6.07. Prices have increased nine consecutive days, rising 22.2 cents.
The Orange County average price is 18.4 cents more than a week ago, 13.8 cents higher than one month ago and $1.344 above what it was one year ago. The Orange County average price has risen $1.433 since the war Iran war began.
Prices in the Inland Empire were nudging closer to $6 on Thursday. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose to its highest amount since Oct. 5, 2023, climbing to $5.94. In San Bernardino County, prices the average price rose to $5.97.
The national average price rose to its highest amount since July 27, 2022, increasing 7.1 cents to $4.30. It has risen eight consecutive days, increasing 28 cents, including 5.3 cents Wednesday.
The national average price is 26.9 cents more than a week ago, 31 cents higher than one month ago and $1.117 above what it was one year ago. It has risen $1.318 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran Feb. 28, moving within 71.6 cents of the record $5.016 set June 14, 2022.
